From International Mergers and Acquisitions to Thrillers

Doug McPheters is a retired international M&A attorney who holds patents on
holographic user interfaces and now writes thrillers full-time.

Raised in New England and northern New York, Doug received his undergraduate
degree from Yale and was immediately commissioned in the Navy, where he became
a submarine officer. After leaving the Navy, Doug earned his law degree from the
University of Pennsylvania.

Doug associated with the Manhattan law firm of Shearman & Sterling, where he
specialized in corporate and banking law, then started his own firm, McPheters & Dankin.

Doug’s first book, “Goshawk,” is about a Manhattan lawyer, David Garvey, who starts
a loan-sharking operation in what’s left in Russia after the Berlin Wall came down. It
became so successful that the Iraqis tried to steal it to evade international sanctions.
David Garvey had to fight the Iraqis in the courts and streets of Manhattan.
A goshawk is a particularly fierce raptor and the Goshawk featured in the book is an experimental plane
invented by the book’s hero that lets its pilot feel like he’s flying free.

Doug’s next book,”Stepping on Fingers,” a sequel of sorts, introduces a new, female
main character, who was sent to a Russian penal colony by a US religious court but
escaped and returned to America to rescue her young daughter from government clutches.

Doug is already hard at work on a third thriller.

Here’s where it gets interesting. First came Doug’s legal experience, then his patents,
and now his thrillers. You’ll have to read his books for more details and excitement.
