Increased Violence

Authorities are searching for the perpetrator who fatally shot conservative influencer Charlie Kirk at an event at Utah Valley University on Wednesday, Sept. 10. Charlie had been invited to the campus of the largest university in Utah, located in Orem, to engage in discussions on political and social issues with students. It was an event hosted by Turning Point USA, the American Comeback Tour.

The shooter, who wore dark clothing, fired from a campus building roughly 200 yards from Kirk, the university and authorities said. Authorities said the suspect then jumped off the building and fled into a nearby neighborhood. The FBI said it recovered the weapon, a high-powered bolt-action rifle, in a nearby wooded area. Messages on that rifle and its bullets were about transgender shootings (the issue Charlie was addressing when he was shot) and about ANTIFA. The shooter appeared to be college-aged and “blended in well” at the college, authorities said. Authorities said they have footage of the shooter but are not yet ready to release it. Most believe this was a well-planned murder and that the killer will escape responsibility.

New surveillance footage captures the final moments of a Ukrainian refugee’s life before she was stabbed to death on a light rail train in Charlotte, North Carolina. Iryna Zarutska, 23, had only recently arrived in the U.S., seeking safety and a new life after fleeing her war-torn home, according to a GoFundMe campaign set up to support her family. Zarutska was seen scrolling on her phone as she sat in front of a man in a red hoodie who was making strange faces. The train continued for approximately five minutes before the suspect pulled a knife from his pocket, unfolded the knife,  then stood up and struck the victim three times, according to a police detective in an affidavit seen by CNN.

The Charlotte Area Transit System has released footage showing Zarutska boarding the Lynx Blue Line just after 9:45 p.m. on August 22 at the East/West Boulevard light rail station in Charlotte’s South End. Wearing her pizzeria job uniform, Zarutska was seen scrolling on her phone as she sat in front of a man in a red hoodie who was making strange faces. The suspect, Decarlos Brown, then walked through the train, his knife dripping the victim’s blood, and yelling, “I got a white girl!” Now, his sister Tracey Brown, 33, has provided shocking audio to the Daily Mail from a phone conversation she conducted with the unhinged killer six days following his arrest, during which he disclosed what was coursing through his thoughts when he launched the vicious assault. Decarlos Brown had previously been arrested 14 times but was free at the time of Iryna’s murder.
